Through the Global SchoolNet
Foundation, students and teachers can find each other through the online database
of collaborative projects,
Awards and through the GSN Cyberfair competition.
Doors to Diplomacy
To address Secretary Powell’s
priority on youth outreach to raise awareness about the importance of international
affairs foreign policy, the Department of State and the Bureau of Public Affairs,
the Office of Electronic Information, sponsored an educational web-building
contest for middle school and high schools students worldwide, in partnership
with Global SchoolNet Foundation.
The Doors to Diplomacy
Award, which teaches about cross-cultural learning and international affairs,
is a special component of Global SchoolNet's International Schools CyberFair
competition. This contest, now in its ninth year, encourages students and
educators to join together to build high-quality, educational Web sites on
a variety of topics and share them as learning tools with millions of people
around the globe. 260 schools representing 300,000 students from 45 countries
participated last year, with Doors to Diplomacy winning teams from Indiana
and Uzbekistan.
International CyberFair
International
Schools CyberFair is an authentic learning program used by schools and
youth organizations around the world. Youth conduct research and publish their
findings on the Web. Recognition is given to the best projects in each of
eight categories: local leaders, businesses, community organizations, historical
landmarks, environment, music, art, and local specialties. This White House
endorsed program encourages youth to become community ambassadors by working
collaboratively and using technology to share what they have learned. Students
evaluate each other's projects by using a unique online evaluation tool.
